COMMUTING IN STAMFORD

Stamford is Growing

The City of Stamford is a dynamic and growing urban center located just 40 miles from New York City. As populations have fallen in Connecticut’s largest cities, Stamford has grown, becoming the state’s third largest city in 2012.

The Stamford Transportation Center is a hub for public transportation services, including Amtrak and Metro-North rail, CTTransit local and regional bus, Greyhound and Peter Pan intercity bus, and a rapidly growing network of private shuttle bus connections to area employment and residential complexes.

Why a Bus and Shuttle Study?

A comprehensive study of bus transit and shuttle services within Stamford has never been completed. Anticipated continued strong economic growth in Stamford, combined with a strong demand for transit services into and throughout the city, create a need for this study to address the variety of evolving public transportation needs for Stamford today and into the future.

In a large employment destination and a growing residential city, local transit plays a key role in sustaining existing businesses, serving the needs of residents, and supporting continued economic growth. Supporting this growth with smart investment and modern services is important to Stamford and the region.

Designing for the Future

The Stamford Bus and Shuttle Study seeks to match the city’s growth with a transit network designed to meet the needs of residents, workers, and visitors alike. The study will recognize the trend towards car-free urban living as well as the “transit mindset” that already exists in Stamford by exploring a wide variety of urban transit options and how they may best support Stamford’s urban fabric.

HOW DO WE IMPROVE THE EXPERIENCE AT THE STAMFORD TRANSIT CENTER AND ACCOMMODATE CONTINUED GROWTH IN STAMFORD

The Stamford Bus and Shuttle Study will address a variety of evolving public transportation needs for Stamford today and into the future. A key component of this is a detailed investigation of public and private shuttles. For more information about the project purpose CLICK HERE.
